Since the 1890s, blockbuster entertainment has been screen only. With this closed mindset, from the first motion pictures to contemporary Streaming Video On Demand (SVOD), the industry has also continued to put up fences around distribution. Additionally, the huge expense of film-only production unintentionally (or intentionally) has limited fan experiences.
Today’s consumer uses multiple screens, assorted social media platforms and is connected to multiple communities. When they become a fan, they want more experiences and interactions – more opportunities to dive deep into the story, and to feel connected to the characters and other fans.
This is the first time a storyline becomes a storyworld offering fans new and unexpected surprises. This world is created via websites, social media channels, mobile, and soon, live events; setting a new benchmark for story, character and community interaction.
Then there is also fusing the entertainment with game-like challenges that reward fans, linking to an entire economic system, where fans can buy, earn, trade and sell.
